About The Departments

The Department of Economics has been an integral part of Gauhati Commerce College, ever since it became operational in its present permanent campus in 1966. It currently consists of four faculties. In 2011, the semester system was introduced under which Economics paper was a compulsory pass course paper in 4th semester (Business Economics) and 5th semester (Business Environment). Since the introduction of the CBCS system in 2019, Economics is an optional paper in B.Com 1st semester (Micro Economics), in 2nd semester (Macro Economics) and in 4th semester (Indian Economy).The department has a mini library, consisting of subject and syllabus related books. These have been collected and contributed by retired faculty members, existing teachers and sample books given by publishers. The books can be borrowed by students for reference purpose. Some of the recent Seminars and Workshop Organized for the students: 1. National webinar on Entrepreneurship: A step towards a self-reliant economy (16th December 2021) 2. National webinar on Stock market (11th February 2022) 3. An interactive session with Bhadra IAS academy, a session on Career guidance. (20th May 2022) 4. Free yoga session organised by GCC Yoga and Wellness Center and Department of Economics. (8th June 2022)
