About The Departments

As the name suggests, the Department of Mathematics- Statistics is an amalgamated department of the subjects viz., Mathematics and Statistics. From its very inception, faculties of Mathematics and Statistics have worked under this amalgamated banner and have contributed significantly to imparting knowledge of mathematical sciences among the students, in particular, and in expansion of commerce education, in general. The department at present is running with 3 faculty members. The Department of Mathematics- Statistics teaches the Business Mathematics (BM) and Business Statistics (BST) as core papers at UG level under Gauhati University. Apart from these, the department is involved in teaching Business Mathematics & Statistics and Mathematics in Higher Secondary classes under Assam Higher Secondary Education Council. Some of the significant activities of the Department undertaken during the last academic year: 1. An Interactive Talk Session was organized on 14th May, 2022 for the UG students on the topic- “UNDERSTANDING THE YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH- AN EMPHASIS ONMANAGING THEIR STRESS”. Ms. Mridusmita Bagchi, Counselling Psychologist, Youth and Mental Health Peer Counsellor was invited as the Resource Person for the Session. 2. A Session on “SPEED MATHS AND CAREER OPTIONS AFTER GRADUATION ”was organized on 27th June, 2022 in collaboration with T.I.M.E., for the B. Com 4th Semester Students. Mr. Soumen Das, B.Tech (IITG) and Mr. Manoshish Dutta, B.E. (Electronics & Telecom), Gauhati University acted as Resource Persons for the session.
